According to BBC UK, a man was taken into custody after three Jewish women, one of whom was pushing a pram containing a baby, reported being assaulted in north-east London. Police were dispatched to the Clapton Common area of Hackney around 13:40 BST on Monday, following the detention of a man by members of Shomrim, a Jewish neighbourhood watch group. Officers subsequently arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of racially aggravated common assault, and it is believed that the women sustained only minor injuries.

The Metropolitan Police stated that they are treating the incident as a suspected antisemitic hate crime and have increased patrols within the area. The force also noted that the same man has since been arrested again on suspicion of grievous bodily harm related to a different incident that occurred in Islington on Friday, and he remains in custody.

Ch Insp Erica Crawshaw described the event as an "alarming and distressing incident" and expressed gratitude to the Shomrim volunteers for apprehending a suspect prior to the arrival of police. She also stated that the Metropolitan Police recognize the concern this incident may have caused the Jewish community in Hackney, adding that they have increased patrols and are engaging with community leaders to offer further reassurance. The Met has issued an appeal for anyone possessing information, or anyone else who believes they may have been assaulted, to come forward.
