According to BBC UK, a 61-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a woman who sustained 'stab wounds' and died subsequent to a crash. The woman, Eleanor Barnfield, aged 47, passed away in the hospital after police responded to an incident on Coity Road in Bridgend on Monday, where it was discovered she had 'puncture wounds unrelated to the collision,' which the BBC understands were inflicted during a stabbing.

Clifford Foster was taken into custody on Tuesday at the Ger-y-Nant retirement housing complex, which is near the location of the crash and where both Foster and Eleanor were known to reside or work. Foster appeared at Newport Magistrates' Court on Friday, using a crutch and wearing a grey tracksuit, while only confirming his name, age, and address to the BBC.

The incident prompted a major police operation, involving specially trained firearm officers who engaged in a 'stand off' at the retirement complex for 12 hours before an arrest was made at 01:00 BST on Tuesday.

Some media outlets had reported that Eleanor had been driving her car to the hospital following the crash. However, the Welsh Ambulance Service (WAS) refuted the claim that Eleanor was driving due to ambulance wait times, stating they were aware of 'misleading rumours' circulating online. WAS reported that medics were called to the Coity Road crash around 12:44, with a response unit arriving seven minutes later, followed by two additional emergency ambulances arriving at 13:07 and 13:13 to offer further support.

WAS characterized the social media rumours as 'contradictory' and 'factually untrue,' and the service advised the public against speculation. Furthermore, WAS stated that initial inquiries were unable to identify any calls from Eleanor's phone numbers, and enquiries were ongoing to determine if any calls were received through other means.

Eleanor's family offered a tribute, describing her as the 'kindest, most loving, bravest person in the world' and adding that she was 'our rock.' The police confirmed that the murder investigation was not being treated as a domestic incident and urged the public 'to not speculate about the circumstances' now that court proceedings were active.

Foster is currently held in custody and is scheduled to appear at Cardiff Crown Court on October 26.
