Man Seriously Injured After Tiger Attack at Yorkshire Wildlife Park
South Yorkshire Police reported that a man sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a tiger at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. The park has closed for the rest of the weekend, and emergency services were called to the scene.
Based on reporting by BBC UK:
South Yorkshire Police stated that they were contacted at 13:35 BST regarding reports of a man entering the tiger enclosure at the attraction near Doncaster, which led to a tiger attacking the man and causing serious injury.
In a statement on its website, the park indicated that its emergency response protocols were immediately activated, and it was collaborating with authorities to determine the exact sequence of events. The park announced that it would remain closed for the duration of the weekend.
The police confirmed the tiger attacked the man, resulting in serious injury, and officers were attempting to reach his family. Authorities added that the tiger stayed within the enclosure after the incident, meaning there is no broader danger to the public. The park was evacuated following the event, and officers are still present at the location. Police also advised the public against sharing any distressing footage of the incident.
Yorkshire Ambulance Service reported deploying an air ambulance, two land ambulances, and a doctor to the scene. The park stated that the safety and welfare of its staff, visitors, and animals are its top priority.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park, which opened in April 2009, had its tiger enclosure open in 2011. This area, known as Land of the Tigers, is described on the park's website as a space where large cats can move through woodlands and grasslands or utilize a waterfall pool. The park's other inhabitants include lions, leopards, cheetah, polar bears, brown bears, and sea lions.
