New Huanggang Port Crossing Requires Dual Registration for Travelers
The revamped Huanggang Port crossing will require both Hong Kong and mainland Chinese residents to register with immigration authorities on both sides of the border to utilize automated "joint clearance" channels, with an anticipated daily usage of approximately 100,000 travelers upon commencement of operations.
According to the South China Morning Post, when the updated Huanggang Port crossing becomes operational, both residents of Hong Kong and mainland China will be required to register with immigration officials on both sides of the border to access the automated "joint clearance" channels. It is anticipated that around 100,000 travelers per day are expected to utilize this control point when operations commence.
Assistant director Jacky Wong Ki stated on Tuesday that the Hong Kong Immigration Department plans to assign enough personnel to assist passengers with the registration process at the checkpoint. Wong mentioned that the entire registration procedure for the automated channel is very fast, taking only a few seconds to finish.
The "joint clearance" system is designed to allow passengers to finalize both their departure and entry clearance procedures by presenting a single identity document required by their destination and passing through a three-gated automated channel.
