According to the South China Morning Post, the death of a 30-year-old nurse in southwestern China due to a brain hemorrhage while performing her duties has caused public outcry because officials refused to classify the death as work-related.

Chen Jiajia, who was a supervising nurse in the medical imaging department at Guizhou Maotai Hospital in Zunyi, reportedly experienced a severe headache and started vomiting while working on August 4, as reported by Dafeng News.

Her coworkers quickly sought emergency medical attention for her, and she subsequently underwent a craniotomy after being diagnosed with acute brain herniation.

Chen remained hospitalized at the initial facility until the early morning hours of August 14, at which point an ambulance transported her to a hospital in Chongqing. Specialists at that hospital declared her brain-dead.

Chinese law stipulates that an employee's illness occurring while on duty is only considered work-related if the employee passes away at the workplace or within 48 hours of receiving emergency treatment.
