More than 300 individuals registered for the Hong Kong Election Committee poll as the nomination period commenced, aiming to secure positions on the body responsible for selecting the city's leader. The nomination window for committee subsectors for the November 22 election is set to close on October 20.
According to the South China Morning Post, over 300 individuals registered for the Hong Kong Election Committee poll when the nomination period opened on Wednesday, competing for seats on the body that chooses the city's leader. The nomination period for committee subsectors pertaining to the November 22 election is scheduled to continue until October 20. This 1,500-member body is tasked with selecting Hong Kong's next chief executive in March of next year. The Registration and Electoral Office documented 305 nominations for candidacy on Wednesday, in addition to receiving two nominations from designated bodies proposing members for the Election Committee. Registered subsector voters will elect a maximum of 982 representatives to the committee, who will join 362 ex officio members and 156 members nominated by designated bodies. Some individuals seeking committee subsector seats declined to comment on the potential for leader John Lee to serve a second term, stating their current focus is on gaining votes.
