BBC UK reported that actor and comedian Paul Whitehouse resisted an individual attempting to steal his card at a cash machine located behind a Sainsbury's in Islington, London, according to his wife.

Dr Mine Conkbayir shared on Instagram that her husband was mugged on Friday while he was obtaining medication for her following a negative reaction to some treatment. She stated that he fought back and managed to retrieve his card, causing the perpetrator to flee without success. Conkbayir advised people to remain "super vigilant" when out in public.

She mentioned that Whitehouse encouraged her to make the post with the aim of increasing public awareness. The Welsh comedian, who is 68 years old, is recognized for his roles in The Fast Show and BBC's Gone Fishing.

Friends and fans responded to Conkbayir's post by expressing condemnation of the assault and sending wishes for Whitehouse's swift recovery. Among those who commented were fellow comedian Dawn French, who stated that the incident in Islington was "utterly not okay," and Angela Barnes, who expressed that it was a "horrible thing to happen" and that she was "sending love to you both."

Whitehouse is also known for his participation in Gone Fishing, a BBC Two series that began in 2018, which he hosts alongside Bob Mortimer, and the series has received six nominations for a Bafta TV award.
