Based on reporting by South China Morning Post:
The Pentagon stated on Monday that US President Donald Trump has given approval for the execution by firing squad of Nidal Hasan, a US Army psychiatrist who killed 13 individuals during an attack on a military base in 2009. Hasan's execution for the incident at Fort Hood in Texas, which also resulted in injuries to over two dozen people, is set to be the first carried out by the US military since 1961. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell posted on X that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had made a recommendation, which President Donald J. Trump subsequently approved, for death by U.S. Army firing squad for the convicted terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan.
