According to the Guyana Times, President Dr Irfaan Ali stated that his administration has invested in bolstering the operational capacities of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF). These investments include the procurement of new aircraft and vessels, along with the modernization of barracks and the reinforcement of forward operating bases nationwide.

In a message marking the 61st anniversary of the GDF, President Ali explained that these expenditures are part of a broader initiative spanning the last five years, which encompasses expanded training, recapitalization, and enhancements to the living conditions for Force members.

Ali noted that Guyana established the GDF sixty-one years ago, even prior to its Independence, with the explicit and lasting objective of defending its territorial integrity and serving its populace. He emphasized that service is what defines a Guyanese soldier, characterizing it as service to the community and service to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, preceding self-interest.

The President indicated that the investments were designed to ensure that GDF personnel possess the necessary resources and conditions to address the requirements of an evolving security landscape. While maintaining that Guyana is committed to international law and peaceful coexistence, Ali stressed the nation's determination to safeguard its territorial integrity.

Meanwhile, Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Omar Khan, in his anniversary communication, reflected on the contributions of various generations of officers and ranks to the nation's defense. Khan mentioned that the GDF's history is founded upon the service and sacrifices of those who established the institution and helped secure Guyana's sovereignty. He further stated that the Force's duty extends beyond developing skilled soldiers to cultivating individuals possessing strong principles, sound judgment, and integrity, noting that military service requires a commitment to duty that persists beyond one's time in uniform.
