Revamped Huanggang Port Opens with Joint Clearance System Between Hong Kong and Mainland China
The revamped Huanggang Port has officially opened following six years of redevelopment, marking it as the first border checkpoint between Hong Kong and mainland China to implement a "joint clearance" system for immigration. Authorities anticipate significant reductions in clearance times for travelers.
According to the South China Morning Post, the revamped Huanggang Port officially commenced operations at 6:30 am on Monday, succeeding the former Huanggang Port in Shenzhen. This previous location accommodated city residents who utilized a shuttle bus service from the San Tin public transport interchange or accessed it via private vehicles through the Lok Ma Chau control point.
The new facility integrates immigration procedures for both the Hong Kong and Shenzhen sides within its structure. Officials stated that this integration is expected to reduce clearance time for pedestrians from 30 minutes to five minutes, and for vehicle drivers from 10 minutes to two minutes.
Senior officials representing Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Guangdong province participated in an opening ceremony at the new facility on Sunday.
