Richard Hammond Purchases £2m Georgian Mansion in Welsh Market Town
Former Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond acquired a £2m Georgian mansion in Llanwenarth, Monmouthshire, in November 2025, as he transitions his lifestyle away from vintage cars toward activities like food festivals and running.
According to a report from BBC UK, Richard Hammond, who is 56 years old, purchased a Georgian mansion valued at £2m in Llanwenarth, located near Abergavenny in Monmouthshire, in November 2025. This acquisition followed his divorce from his wife, Mindy, after 23 years of marriage. Hammond stated to BBC Wales that he has felt happier since moving into the 19th-century residence, noting that he finds a new reason to be pleased with his living situation each week.
Speaking to the High Performance Podcast, Hammond mentioned that he has taken up open water swimming, describing himself as becoming braver than ever. He indicated that it only took a couple of visits to the property for him to realize he liked it, adding that the Brecon Beacons National Park is situated on the other side of his right-hand fence. He remarked that he can complete a walk up Sugar Loaf Mountain in one hour and 20 minutes, or he could be getting a coffee or measured for a new suit in 20 minutes.
Currently, the property is undergoing renovations which are planned to include guest accommodation, a padel court, and car garages. Hammond recently drew attention for stating he would find a way to coexist with rare bats that have temporarily halted the renovation work, asserting that he prefers to work with nature rather than eliminate it.
At the start of 2025, Hammond announced his separation from Mindy, with whom he has two children, which occurred just three months after his father passed away from cancer. This timing coincided with the conclusion of the final episode of the Grand Tour, which marked the end of his 22-year broadcasting career alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May. Since then, Hammond has been rebuilding his life in Wales and reported that his energy levels had been replenished, stating that he is now much braver and engages in activities he previously would not have done.
He has joined an Abergavenny running club, improving his 5k time to under 25 minutes, and has also started open water swimming in the Lake District while keeping up with his new girlfriend, Keira "Kiki" Glen. Hammond told the Telegraph that he signed up for a triathlon after supporting her event, noting that everyone involved was having a great time and feeling energized afterward.
While one might anticipate that classic cars and motor racing would remain central to his life, Hammond acknowledged that his priorities have shifted. Instead of attending the Goodwood Revival festival this year, he was sampling cheeses and whiskies at the Abergavenny Food Festival. Hammond is widely recognized for his time on Top Gear, which was revived in 2002 and became a major BBC program at the time. He expressed uncertainty about whether the original format would succeed today, noting that it was a "completely different time."
In August, it was announced that the show, which has been off air since Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff was seriously injured in a crash while filming four years prior, would return. Hammond suggested the BBC would bring it back because it is an established brand that predates the network by decades. He also mentioned that the car represents the second largest expense for people. Hammond's daughter, Izzy, shares his interest in cars, and the two now co-present on the social media channel DriveTribe. Hammond expressed confidence that she might be interested in a role on Top Gear someday, adding that it would be beneficial to see more women on such programs, stating that television has a role in representation because people are unlikely to enter a field unless they see someone who represents them.
