Royal Mail Unveils Nativity-Themed Christmas Stamps Marking 60th Anniversary
Royal Mail has released its Christmas stamps for the current year, which feature scenes from the Nativity. This collection of five stamps was created by Gareth Howat and Rebecca Sutherland, and it marks the 60th anniversary of the first Christmas special stamp.
According to BBC UK, Royal Mail has introduced its Christmas stamps for this year, which showcase scenes from the Nativity. The set of five stamps was jointly developed by graphic designer Gareth Howat and illustrator Rebecca Sutherland. These stamps illustrate well-known scenes, including Mary and Joseph on their journey, the baby Jesus, an angel, the shepherds, and the Three Wise Men.
This current collection signifies the 60th anniversary of the inaugural Christmas special stamp. Rebecca Sutherland stated that she felt it was an "absolute honour" to receive the chance to illustrate the Christmas stamps for Royal Mail. Sutherland also mentioned that she has enjoyed stamps since childhood and had previously collected them, adding that being asked to create a set herself felt "incredibly special."
BBC UK reported that previous years' Christmas stamps have featured either snowy depictions of UK cathedrals or lyrics from well-known carols, though the 2025 issue also presented scenes from the Nativity. The very first Christmas stamp collection was released in December 1966, following a children's art competition that was announced by the postmaster at that time, Tony Benn. David Gold, who is with Royal Mail, expressed the hope that this year's Christmas stamps will provide an additional element of festive charm to the numerous greetings sent to relatives and friends both domestically and internationally.
