According to BBC UK, seven people were detained following disorder that involved fireworks being set off in a city centre area. Officers used Section 60 stop-and-search powers, which allow searches without the need to have reasonable grounds to do so. Social media footage circulated showing groups gathered on Corporation Street in Birmingham, where fireworks were detonated near police vehicles and officers.

West Midlands Police stated that the arrests occurred in and around Stephenson Street and Corporation Street after officers addressed "pockets of disorder" where fireworks were being used in a hazardous manner. The individuals arrested, who were between 15 and 26 years old, were held on suspicion of offenses such as assault, possessing fireworks, and possessing an offensive weapon. The force confirmed that all seven remain in custody for questioning.

Ch Supt Tom Boyce commented that misusing fireworks is not only hazardous but also illegal, potentially resulting in fines, arrest, and criminal charges. The police indicated that additional officers were stationed at important locations to prevent a recurrence of violence experienced the previous year. This follows an incident on November 6, 2025, where 21 people were arrested after officers were attacked with fireworks on Dale End and Staniforth Street.
