Retail businesses in Shenzhen are preparing for the launch of the upgraded Huanggang Port on October 12, which is expected to reduce immigration clearance time significantly, though some staff worry shoppers might prefer major commercial areas over border shops.

According to the South China Morning Post, retail enterprises in Shenzhen are getting ready for the upcoming opening of the renovated Huanggang Port situated at the border between Hong Kong and mainland China. Despite this preparation, some individuals working in the service sector anticipate a surge in visitors but express apprehension that shoppers may choose to visit major commercial districts instead of the border establishments.

The expanded port, which has undergone six years of redevelopment, is scheduled to become operational on October 12, as reported by a source. The facility will implement a "joint inspection" model for immigration clearance, a change anticipated to decrease the clearance duration from approximately 30 minutes down to five minutes.

Authorities have indicated that the port's initial capacity will be able to manage 100,000 daily passenger trips, with the potential for this capacity to increase to 300,000 in the future. Separately, the Bosen Dental clinic established a new branch across from the new facility in August; this clinic also has other locations near border crossings like Futian and Liantang, in addition to one near Shenzhen North railway station.
