Taizoom Elevator Lifts in 74 Additional Buildings Lack Safety Components, Total Affected Properties Reach 152
Hong Kong authorities reported that lifts in 74 more private buildings serviced by Taizoom Elevator are missing essential door frame components, bringing the cumulative count of affected properties to 152.
According to the South China Morning Post, Hong Kong authorities announced that lifts in 74 additional private buildings installed by Taizoom Elevator are missing vital door frame components, which increases the total number of properties impacted to 152. These updated figures were released by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department on Sunday night following citywide inspections of all lifts managed by Taizoom.
An expert previously explained that the door frame components are designed to safeguard lift occupants from smoke and flames should a fire occur. The department indicated that out of the 152 affected premises, 150 are private residential or commercial structures, while the remaining two are public housing estates operating under the Tenants Purchase Scheme. Authorities also noted that the expected number of affected buildings could increase further, as approximately 180 more buildings serviced by the Hong Kong company have not yet undergone inspection.
