The Celebrity Traitors: Miranda Hart's Murder, Traitor Hunt Intensifies
BBC UK reported on episode eight of The Celebrity Traitors, series two, detailing the murder of Miranda Hart and the ongoing efforts by contestants to identify traitors, with three traitors remaining among ten players.
BBC UK reported on details from episode eight of The Celebrity Traitors, series two, noting that original Celebrity Traitor Maya Jama, new recruit King Kenny, and James Acaster had shown increased interest in murder during the week. Before Friday's episode, the group's shared intent was to ensure that one of three faithful contestants—Miranda Hart, Romesh Ranganathan, or Sebastian "Bash" Croft—would not survive to breakfast.
Speculation grew as it became apparent that Miranda, who had performed her final dance in the castle, leaving only 10 of the initial 21 participants. James A commented in a flashback to a turret discussion that Miranda was a good detective. Maya stated that she felt a sense of treachery and that Miranda was the only one who made sense.
Miranda, who had been actively investigating on the show, reacted strongly to the news of her death, throwing her murder note down and exclaiming, "No! Absolutely not." She also mentioned being cross with herself for focusing on her theory about Joanne McNally being a traitor, a theory she had previously debunked at the roundtable.
Reflecting on her experience, the comedian, who has faced health issues recently, remarked that it was extraordinary to be able to resume professional and personal activities, such as being in nature on a Scottish island and laughing.
With Miss Marple no longer participating, James A informed viewers that James Blunt and Michael Sheen were like "Holmes and Watson" among the remaining traitor hunters, though he added they were looking in the wrong places.
Leigh-Anne mentioned that she was hoping the pressure on her would lessen after losing her new Big Mix dance partner from episode six. While Miranda was being murdered on Thursday night, Jade Thirlwell, a Little Mix star, told BBC News at the Mercury prize ceremony that her groupmate was a genuine "faithful through and through."
Despite these positive comments, the positioning of the traitors led to a declaration from comedian Romesh at breakfast that the group was being "battered," which Maya agreed with, stating the task was becoming increasingly difficult.
In the diary room, the Gentleman actress and presenter admitted to feeling terrible about Miranda and that she would be missed, while also noting the pressure that came with her "OG traits."
James B, who has consistently made incorrect theories throughout the series, suggested that Maya and Kenny were the two most innocent, jokingly comparing his performance to Sherlock at work.
Maya began suggesting that roundtable investigator Michael Sheen might be involved in something, asking Romesh how he had not been killed, to which Romesh replied that it was like not getting rid of Hercule Poirot.
Michael and Sharon, who had a theory about Ross Kemp being killed with perfume, stated that Sharon was determined to catch a traitor and would "not be taking any prisoners."
During the mission, the dwindling group arrived at a location described as a "field of screams" filled with scarecrows. The task required them to retrieve bags of gold from inside the straw men using a pitchfork to increase the charity prize pot. Joanne mentioned that her knot-tying badge did not assist her initially, leading her to declare a newfound respect for the farming community.
It was revealed that an unrevealed, game-changing power would be given to one player after they had to destroy the proxy pumpkin scarecrow heads of all but three of the most trustworthy contestants. Sharon later admitted to becoming angry with James B, Michael, and Kenny regarding which heads should be eliminated. In a moment described as remarkably stupid, the group chose to preserve the heads belonging to Maya, James A, and Kenny.
Following this, Claudia Winkleman quipped to the traitors that the situation resembled an outdoor turret. The special power was revealed to be a double dagger, allowing one of the "trustworthy trio," as James A called them, to have two votes at the night's roundtable. King Kenny was crowned the keeper of this special blade.
James B stated back at the castle that he felt the power was in the right hands, while Leigh-Anne expressed confusion, noting that they had no idea who the traitors were.
Romesh reminded Joanne that her policy of not voting off Michael because of his "great company" did not align with how the game should function. With the double dagger active, Michael declared his intention to catch a traitor that night.
Kenny warned everyone to be nice to him, and Joanne noted that he was a powerful man. Bash drew attention along with Leigh-Anne and Sharon at another roundtable led by Don Michael, when Bash questioned the Welshman about why he was still there if he were a faithful player. Romesh agreed that he would have killed Bash if he were a traitor, stating that his presence was necessary for group morale.
To divert attention from himself, Michael pointed out that Sharon had been acting differently lately. Kenny accepted this, and James B voted the same way due to Sharon's "suspicious" tantrum during the task. As a result, Scotswoman Sharon received four votes, alongside Irish comic Joanne, leading to a second round after their final pleas.
Kenny stated he wished he hadn't taken the dagger before casting his decisive second vote, and the producers left the outcome uncertain.
Ten contestants remained, consisting of seven faithful players (soon to be six) and three traitors, placing the hidden interlopers in a strong position heading into the final two episodes.
