Three Killed in Attacks on Saudi Airports, Houthis Claim Responsibility
The South China Morning Post reports that three individuals died following attacks on two of Saudi Arabia's international airports, including the one in the capital, Riyadh. The Houthi group claimed responsibility for the incidents, which are noted as a significant escalation in the war in Yemen.
According to the South China Morning Post, Saudi authorities announced on Wednesday that three people were killed in assaults on two of the kingdom's international airports, one of which is located in the capital, Riyadh. These attacks occurred after Yemen's Houthis asserted they had fired upon both transportation centers.
The kingdom's civil aviation authority issued a statement indicating that Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport were targeted by attacks on Tuesday and Wednesday. The agency further reported that an Egyptian national and an Algerian national were killed at Abha airport, while a Sudanese national died at the airport in Riyadh, with 36 people sustaining injuries during the attacks.
These incidents are described as representing a sharp escalation of the conflict in neighboring Yemen. Previously, Iran-backed fighters had taken credit for a series of attacks, which included launching a ballistic missile at Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport as the conflict intensifies between Saudi Arabia and the government in Yemen.
