According to BBC UK, three police officers were injured in County Down after a lorry they were pursuing drove on the incorrect side of the road and collided with their vehicle at speed.

An individual aged 36 was taken into custody on suspicions of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving while unfit due to alcohol or drugs.

While a police vehicle sustained significant damage, the injuries sustained by the officers are currently believed not to be serious.

The sequence of events started after a report surfaced regarding a blue articulated lorry swerving on Moygannon Road in the Warrenpoint region shortly before 23:30 BST on Saturday.

Ch Insp Will Brown stated that officers responded and found a lorry matching the description on Derryleckagh Road in Newry.

When the lorry was signaled to stop, it proceeded to flee at speed and on the wrong side of the road, before impacting a police vehicle and continuing in the direction of Rostrevor.

Brown added that the lorry eventually stopped in the Water Street area of Rostrevor, where the driver, who is 36 years old, attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by officers after a brief foot chase.

This individual remains in custody.

Ch Insp Brown mentioned that the officers placed themselves at the forefront to assist in maintaining public safety. He also noted that no one, including the officers or other road users, suffered more serious injuries during the incident.
