Trump Announces Talks with Putin Regarding Reported Plague Death in Russian Lab
US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that he planned to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin soon concerning the reported death of a laboratory technician from the plague, amid pressure from Washington for transparency. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the World Health Organization also called for openness regarding the incident in Siberia.
According to the South China Morning Post, US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he intended to have a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin shortly regarding the reported death of a laboratory technician due to the plague, as Washington has been pressuring Moscow for greater transparency.
Russian authorities have denied implementing anti-plague measures and have downplayed reports concerning an incident that occurred last week at a plague research institute located in Siberia's Irkutsk region.
However, Washington is expressing increasing concern, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio urging Russia to be open about the circumstances. Rubio stated during a visit to Iceland that they encourage Russia to share more information with the global community so that everyone can respond in an appropriate and suitable manner. The World Health Organization also issued a comparable appeal on Tuesday.
