US-China Summit Characterized by Status Quo Management, Not Major Breakthrough
Some observers suggest that the recent talks between the two leaders in Washington focused more on maintaining the current situation rather than achieving significant resolutions to the fundamental differences between the United States and China.
According to the South China Morning Post, discussions between the two leaders in Washington resulted in several joint announcements, yet some commentators indicated that the focus was more on managing existing tensions rather than resolving the core disagreements between the nations. Mike Kuiken, who serves as the vice-chair of the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission, informed the South China Morning Post that the summit's primary objective seemed to be determining how to maintain the existing status quo. Kuiken stated that he does not anticipate any major breakthroughs, adding that he believes any advancements, which he suggested would likely be incremental, would require difficult diplomatic discussions and negotiation.
