According to the South China Morning Post, negotiators have advanced discussions on the Board of Investment following the recent meeting between President Xi Jinping and Donald Trump, though complex hurdles remain for finalizing broader economic agreements before their next summit in November.
Multiple sources informed the South China Morning Post that while progress has been achieved in investment and trade discussions leading up to the meeting between President Xi Jinping and Donald Trump, various complexities persist.
These sources indicated that intense negotiations are expected to carry on in the coming weeks, as both Washington and Beijing continue to encounter obstacles in finalizing a complicated set of economic agreements and institutional frameworks.
Sources speaking to the South China Morning Post, who requested anonymity, noted that negotiators have managed to make substantial headway regarding the Board of Investment discussions since President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Donald Trump convened in Washington last month.
The two leaders are scheduled to meet again on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit, which will take place in China’s southern technology center in November. This upcoming meeting would mark their second encounter within two months and their third meeting this year.
