US Homeland Security Chief Dismisses Security Risk of Live-Streaming Nidal Hasan's Execution
Markwayne Mullin, the US Homeland Security chief, stated that the planned live stream of Nidal Hasan's execution would not introduce further security risks to the United States, while also warning that attacking America would lead to severe repercussions.
According to the South China Morning Post, Markwayne Mullin, who serves as the US Homeland Security chief, dismissed concerns that broadcasting the execution by firing squad of Nidal Hasan would create an elevated security risk or turn the perpetrator into a martyr for his cause. Mullin told CBS News' Face the Nation that he did not see any increased risk at this time regarding the live stream. He further asserted that if any entity were to attack America, the United States would respond, ensuring that the punishment matched the offense. Nidal Hasan, who was 56 years old, was a US Army psychiatrist who was responsible for a mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009. That attack, which was inspired by al-Qaeda, resulted in the deaths of 13 individuals and injured over 30 others.
