Wang takes singles gold as China also wins men’s doubles final
China’s two 4-2 victories came in separate Asian Games table tennis finals: Wang Manyu beat defending women’s singles champion Sun Yingsha, while Huang Youzheng and Lin Shidong defeated Japan’s Harimoto Tomokazu and Shinozuka Hiroto in men’s doubles. Wang’s win returned her to a title she had held in 2018, days after she moved ahead of Sun in the world rankings.
The South China Morning Post reported two separate 4-2 results in the Asian Games table tennis finals. Wang Manyu beat defending women’s singles champion Sun Yingsha; in men’s doubles, Huang Youzheng and Lin Shidong defeated Japan’s Harimoto Tomokazu and Shinozuka Hiroto. The matching scores were from different events, not one shared final.
Wang’s singles victory brought her back to the Asian Games title she had won in 2018. The South China Morning Post said she had displaced Sun at the top of the world rankings days before the final. The report placed that ranking change ahead of Wang’s win, while the doubles result was a separate Chinese victory.
