Zelensky Communicates to US Envoys Amid Trump Spat
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky communicated to US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on Sunday that a significant amount hinges on America's stance in the war, while also stating that Ukraine was ready to work 'constructively' and 'honestly' with the US.
According to the South China Morning Post, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky communicated to US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on Sunday that 'a lot depends on America.' This statement came as Zelensky had previously cautioned Washington against aligning with Moscow in what the conflict has described as Europe's most severe conflict since World War II.
Zelensky addressed the US officials while both Russia and Ukraine were targeting each other's energy infrastructure, with Moscow causing power outages for thousands and Kyiv executing the largest drone attack on St Petersburg since the beginning of the 2022 war.
Tensions have risen between Trump and Zelensky because the US leader prevented new sanctions against Russia and entered into a diesel agreement with Moscow, which has fueled concerns in Kyiv and Europe that the White House was moving toward Moscow's side.
Following his conversation with Witkoff, who is a business associate of Trump, and Kushner, Trump's son-in-law, Zelensky remarked that "a lot depends" on the US position in the war, but also noted that "it is clear that there are many things that matter to all of us and that this war must be brought to an end."
