Strategic Approaches to Alleviate Poverty and Living Costs

The government of Guyana, led by President Dr. Irfaan Ali, is committed to establishing a supportive ecosystem aimed at enhancing the quality of life while also targeting reductions in poverty and the cost of living. In his recent address to the nation, the President emphasized the importance of direct government interventions and a restructuring of the taxation framework to prioritize the well-being of its citizens.

During his speech, Dr. Ali highlighted the rollout of various measures aimed at expanding social services, with a promise to accelerate these initiatives should the People’s Progressive Party/Civic receive a second term in office. “I will present to you a detailed strategy focused on a targeted social welfare program, designed to ensure that our taxation system alleviates rather than burdens our people. Over the next five years, we aim to simplify the taxation process,” he stated.

The administration’s plan includes systemic policies that tackle both immediate and long-lasting challenges, fostering economic growth alongside robust social safety nets. Furthermore, the government envisions improved access to essential services like healthcare, education, and water infrastructure.
