During a meeting in Kuala Lumpur on July 10, 2025, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed China’s steadfast dedication to being a reliable friend and partner to Bangladesh. Meeting with Touhid Hossain, adviser for foreign affairs of the interim government, Wang emphasized the significance of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Wang remarked that China intends to cultivate a strategic partnership with Bangladesh rooted in principles of peaceful coexistence, always supporting the Bangladeshi people. He further mentioned China’s commitment to promoting a mutually beneficial relationship, highlighting the economic advantages like zero-tariff access for Bangladeshi products, contrasting this with the high tariffs imposed by the United States on Bangladesh.
Moreover, Wang reaffirmed China’s commitment to fostering a collaborative future for the region, stressing cooperation not only with Bangladesh but also with Pakistan. A recent trilateral deputy foreign minister-level meeting in Kunming aimed to enhance this collaboration.
In response, Hossain acknowledged China’s reliability as a partner and expressed gratitude for China’s ongoing assistance in Bangladesh’s development. He emphasized Bangladesh’s commitment to the one-China principle and the desire to deepen cooperation, particularly in trade and healthcare, as they look forward to enhancing bilateral relations during this milestone year.
