Young Rivals of Fairfield, East Coast Demerara, have emerged as the champions of a three-team T20 competition in Suriname, defeating Lusignan Sports Club and Spartans of Suriname in the final.
The tournament was held on October 11-12 at Dr Snellen Park, with Young Rivals starting strong by beating Spartans by eight runs before taking down Lusignan in the final by three wickets.
Kevin Kisten led the batting effort for Young Rivals with scores of 45, 48, and 28, while Yeudistir Persaud had a brilliant all-round performance, taking 2-19 and making 42. Rajendra Singh also contributed significantly with 45 runs against Spartans.
For Lusignan, Nigel Deodat was consistent throughout the tournament with scores of 30, 26, and 38. Gavin Singh highlighted Spartans’ winless campaign with a score of 57.
The final match saw Young Rivals’ Tyrell Peters take three wickets for 33 runs, while Mahendra Singh took four wickets for nine runs to seal the victory.
