
Authorities have apprehended a suspect linked to the tragic shooting of Desiree Hyman, a businesswoman from Mocha, who was fatally shot last Friday on First Street, East Bank Demerara.
After conducting a thorough investigation over the weekend, police acted on intelligence that led them to the arrest of Weedon Oudkerk, a 42-year-old taxi driver from Paradise, East Coast Demerara, during an operation on Sunday, July 20th, between 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM.
According to reports, detectives tracked Oudkerk down to Dennis Street, Sophia, where he was informed of his wanted status in connection with Hyman’s murder. Although he denied any involvement, he was taken into custody and transported to the Providence Police Station.
The investigation is still ongoing, with police gathering more evidence and interrogating the suspect. Hyman’s death has prompted demands for expedited justice, with family members and community residents voicing concerns about increasing gun violence and the necessity for improved safety measures.
Investigators are calling on anyone with further information that could aid in the inquiry to step forward as they strive to clarify the events surrounding Hyman’s unfortunate demise.
