The individual accused of launching a violent attack during a peaceful pro-Israel demonstration in Boulder appeared in federal court recently to face charges including a federal hate crime.
Forty-five-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman stands accused of injuring over a dozen people by throwing Molotov cocktails into the crowd. Reports indicate that he assembled a total of 18 incendiary devices prior to the event, which aimed to support Israeli hostages on June 1.
Soliman, dressed in a green jumpsuit and handcuffs during his court appearance, indicated his understanding of the charges against him and requested a court-appointed lawyer, which the court granted.
As the prosecution requested his detention, Soliman did not contest this motion. The presiding judge set his next hearing for June 18.
Witnesses reported a chaotic scene where Soliman allegedly used a commercial weed sprayer as a makeshift blowtorch and threw glass bottles that ignited on impact. Authorities discovered various incendiary materials and an AR-style BB gun in his vehicle, along with disturbing documentation suggesting motive.
Soliman reportedly expressed no remorse for his actions during police questioning and stated he would commit the act again if possible. Facing multiple legal charges, including attempted murder, he could potentially receive a lengthy prison sentence if convicted, with bond initially set at $10 million.
