Beijing claims that Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is losing its grip on the narrative as more Taiwanese citizens gain access to the internet and social media platforms.
Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the State Council’s Taiwan Affairs Office, made these remarks during a recent press conference in response to allegations that Beijing was using social media to ‘brainwash’ young Taiwanese people.
According to Zhu, the DPP has long sought to restrict channels of information between Taiwan and the mainland, spreading misinformation about the Chinese government.
However, with the rapid growth of internet penetration and social media usage, Zhu says that Taiwanese citizens can now access news and information more easily, leading to a gradual exposure of the lies spread by the DPP.
The Beijing government is now urging Taiwanese youth to visit the mainland, promising improved living conditions and opportunities for personal and professional growth.
