A tragic incident at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, has left 19-year-old Aiden Sloan in intensive care following a serious diving accident. Aiden was enjoying a day at the beach with his cousins when the unfortunate event occurred on Monday afternoon.
According to Hampton Beach Fire Chief Michael McMahon, as Aiden dove into the waves, he miscalculated the depth and collided with an unexpected sandbar.
“They were just diving into the water like typical kids,” Aiden’s mother, Melina Burton, recounted. The situation took a horrifying turn when his cousins realized Aiden was unresponsive and managed to pull him from the water, moments after the accident. One cousin described the overwhelming fear as they struggled to revive him.
Burton expressed deep gratitude towards her son’s cousins, especially Michael, who retrieved Aiden from the sea, affirming that without their quick actions, Aiden may not have survived this ordeal.
Fire Chief McMahon noted that such accidents, while not common, can occur when safety precautions are overlooked. “This was simply a young man enjoying time at the beach in the heat; it’s a sad accident,” he said.
A GoFundMe page has been established for Aiden, who sustained severe neck injuries and currently experiences limited mobility. Melina remains hopeful for her son’s recovery, emphasizing the long road ahead but determined to support him every step of the way.
