
A 19-year-old woman from Baramita, North West District, has been charged with the murder of her partner, a 20-year-old miner. Naderia James appeared in court and was remanded to prison until her next appearance.
According to police reports, the couple got into a violent confrontation on September 18, 2025, after James returned home intoxicated. The incident resulted in the death of the young miner.
James had initially fled the scene but later reported the incident to the authorities. Two Brazilian nationals were fined for purchasing gold from unauthorized sources earlier in the day.
Senior police officers are raising concerns about the challenges of securing successful prosecutions due to various hurdles.
A businessman was also remanded to prison for trafficking offenses.
