A devastating motorcycle accident in East Berbice has left two young lives cut short. On Sunday morning, a collision between a motorcar and a motorcycle claimed the lives of 29-year-old Kris Ramphal and his passenger, 18-year-old Malcolm Pirtan. The incident occurred along the No. 11 Public Road, with both victims allegedly not wearing helmets at the time of impact.
The police investigation revealed that the motorcyclist was traveling at a high speed in the opposite direction to the oncoming vehicle, and that the motorcycle had no functioning headlight. The driver of the car, Madray Ramsammy, reported that the motorcyclist veered into his lane, causing him to swerve and collide with the vehicle. The resulting impact was severe, throwing both Ramphal and Pirtan from the motorcycle onto the side of the road.
The two victims were rushed to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead by attending physicians. Their bodies have since been transferred to the Arokium Funeral Home for post-mortem examinations.
Investigations are ongoing, with Ramsammy currently in custody at the Central Police Station.
