
An eight-year-old girl’s innocent ride home from school turned into a devastating tragedy in Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo. Supriya Khan, a Grade Three pupil of the Parika Back Primary School, was riding with her father, Imran Khan, on an electric bike when a motor pickup collided with them, sending both to the road. The incident has left the community in shock and grief.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the motor pickup attempted to overtake the e-bike, resulting in the fatal collision. Supriya was pronounced dead at De Kinderen Public Hospital, while her father is receiving treatment for a fractured skull.
The grieving mother, Ramona Rackbar, expressed her devastation and struggle to cope with the loss. ‘I am really broke. I cannot eat. I am only living off of liquid,’ she said. The police have arrested the driver, Arif Alli, who has breathalyser readings well over the legal limit.
The incident highlights the importance of road safety and responsible driving practices. As investigations continue, the community holds its breath in hopes for justice to be served.
