A devastating incident has claimed the life of a 42-year-old gold miner from Charity, Essequibo Coast. Michael John Benn was stabbed during an altercation at Aranguy Landing, Cuyuni River, on Sunday morning.
According to police reports, Benn was at a liquor shop in the area when he became involved in a confrontation with two males, resulting in stab wounds to his chest.
The authorities have taken one suspect into custody and are working to apprehend the second individual. The victim’s body is currently being held at the Aranka Police Station, awaiting transportation to the Bartica Regional Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, police are investigating the recovery of a suspected illegal firearm and ammunition in a separate incident.
A farmer was recently fined and jailed after two illegal firearms were seized in Karasabai Village, South Pakaraimas.
The Commissioner of Police has urged the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to provide regular updates on reports.
