In a devastating incident in Bryansk, Russia, seven individuals have lost their lives following the collapse of a highway bridge onto railway tracks near the Ukraine border. The accident occurred late Saturday night, when the bridge fell, crushing several heavy trucks that were on a moving passenger train, resulting in 31 reported injuries.
The Russian Emergencies Ministry has deployed fire and rescue teams to search for passengers who were aboard the train during the collapse. Moscow Railway alleged that the bridge’s failure was due to ‘illegal interference in transport operations.’
In a series of misfortunes, a second bridge down along the Trosna-Kalinovka highway in the Kursk region also collapsed Sunday morning. A freight train was on it when part of it tumbled onto the roadway below, igniting a fire and injuring the train driver.
Local authorities confirmed seven fatalities, with two individuals, including a child, sustaining serious injuries, all of whom have been transported to hospitals in the Bryansk region. The tragedy has prompted an official investigation by Moscow’s interregional transport prosecutor’s office.
Emergency services have mobilized additional resources, including rescue equipment and lighting, for continued operations at the site. Passengers on the train, which was traveling from Klimovo to Moscow, have been evacuated and rerouted on a reserve train to continue their journey, approximately 100 kilometers from the Ukraine border.
