
In a heartbreaking incident, 16-year-old Justin Smith from No. 47 Village, Corentyne, has lost his life following a collision with a row plough, as reported by Regional Police Commander Shivpersaud Bacchus.
Initially, there were claims that Justin had sustained fatal chop wounds due to an altercation with a group of men. However, further investigations and a post-mortem examination revealed that his demise was the result of the accident. The tragic event occurred on July 13, 2025, in No. 43 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
On the night of the incident, Justin was reportedly seen riding his motorcycle near a group of three men who were drinking alcohol. Witnesses stated that he may have gestured at them before the accident occurred. Mukesh Edwards, present at the scene, later acknowledged hearing the impact but denied any aggressive actions towards Justin.
CCTV footage indicates that Justin was speeding while attempting to overtake another vehicle before veering off and crashing into the plough, which had visible damages. He suffered critical injuries to his back and head and was transported to Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he unfortunately passed away en route to further medical care.
A post-mortem conducted on July 17 confirmed his cause of death as shock and hemorrhage from multiple injuries due to the accident. An inquiry into the circumstances of the incident is underway following the submission of an investigative file for legal assessment.
