A Brazilian tourist, Juliana Marins, has tragically been found dead after falling during a hike near the crater of Mount Rinjani, an active volcano in Indonesia. The incident occurred during an early morning group hike along a steep trail, with efforts to rescue Marins hampered by challenging terrain and poor visibility.
Initially surviving the fall, Juliana was reported to have been heard crying for help on Saturday, but rescuers faced difficulties in reaching her due to harsh weather conditions. Her family confirmed the heartbreaking news on social media, expressing gratitude for the support they received during the ordeal.
Before her fatal hike, the 26-year-old had been backpacking across Southeast Asia, including adventures in Thailand and Vietnam. She was hiking with friends and a guide when she fell from a cliff bordering the volcano’s crater. Eyewitness accounts described the area as treacherous, with slippery terrain and limited visibility.
Despite attempts to locate her over several days, it was not until Tuesday that rescuers, traversing down a ravine, discovered her body. However, adverse weather conditions have thus far prevented the retrieval of her remains.
The mountainous region attracts numerous tourists annually, but past climbing incidents have raised concerns regarding safety measures.
