
A tragic accident claimed the life of 71-year-old Ramroop Sadaram, a resident of Success, East Coast Demerara, on Friday night at approximately 11:45 PM along Le Ressouvenir Public Road. Authorities reported that the incident involved motor vehicle #PAB 9943, operated by a 48-year-old businessman, and motorcycle #CN 8838, ridden by a 27-year-old construction worker.
According to the driver, as he proceeded east in the northern driving lane, he heard the loud sound of a motorcycle. Upon checking his mirror, he felt a sudden collision with both the front and rear of his car. Stopping immediately, he discovered both Sadaram and the motorcyclist injured on the road.
Emergency Medical Technicians were called, but unfortunately, Sadaram was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcyclist was conscious and was transported to Georgetown Public Hospital for medical care. The driver of the motor vehicle is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
A breathalyser test administered to the driver showed readings of .017% and .019%. This unfortunate event has raised concerns regarding road safety and the need for vigilance among all road users.
