At least 15 Palestinians, including eight children and two women, lost their lives in an Israeli airstrike while waiting for nutritional supplements outside a clinic in central Gaza, according to a local hospital.
Graphic footage from al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital shows the aftermath of the attack that occurred outside Project Hope’s Altayara health clinic in Deir al-Balah, a facility primarily serving those suffering from malnutrition, infections, and chronic ailments. Eyewitnesses recounted the horror, describing the chaotic scene as the explosion transformed the area into a site of devastation and mourning.
Project Hope condemned the strike as a clear breach of international law, while the Israeli military stated that their target was a member of Hamas identified as a terrorist. Nonetheless, they expressed regret over civilian casualties.
As ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas continue, the civilian toll is staggering. Thursday’s airstrike is just one part of a larger pattern of violence, with a reported 66 casualties on that day alone.
UNICEF’s leadership denounced the killing of families merely seeking aid as intolerable. With lives lost and communities shattered, the situation in Gaza remains perilous as the quest for peace continues amidst ongoing conflict.
While some hope for mediation, significant differences remain, with Israeli officials indicating it may take weeks to finalize a ceasefire agreement that includes disarmament demands from Hamas.
