A heartbreaking event unfolded in Number 71 Village, Corentyne Berbice, as a 19-year-old named Yodesh Inderjit tragically drowned during a duck hunting expedition.
Yodesh, who worked as a carpenter, embarked on this outing with two friends around 3:00 PM to hunt ‘wisy wisy’ ducks. His father, Loknauth Narine, was informed of the incident by a passerby at a supermarket around 4:00 PM and rushed to the scene.
Once he arrived, he began a search with others and found Yodesh submerged in the water. Despite their attempts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the Skeldon Public Hospital.
Yodesh’s mother, Roopawattie Latchman, has strong beliefs regarding the circumstances of her son’s death, expressing that he could swim well and was not likely to have drowned. She shared concerns about conflicting stories from his friends about the incident. One friend mentioned that during their swimming session, an unexpected event occurred where Yodesh may have been struck accidentally.
This trip was Yodesh’s first hunting adventure with these friends, as he had previously gone with other groups without any problems. Feeling unsatisfied with the explanations, Roopawattie has called for a comprehensive police investigation into the matter, seeking to understand precisely what happened to her son.
“I want to know exactly what happened to my son because I am not pleased with this situation. In my heart, I feel he did not drown as he was an expert swimmer and diver,” she stated with conviction.
