A Kentucky family is mourning the tragic death of 15-year-old Luis Jocsan Nanez Lopez, a Marine veteran, who was fatally shot while courageously intervening to protect his mother from an alleged assault by an illegal immigrant.
The incident occurred on July 20 in South Texas, where Gildardo Amandor-Martinez, a 36-year-old Mexican citizen, is accused of shooting Lopez after the teen attempted to stop the attack on his mother. The dire situation escalated when Amandor-Martinez allegedly sought to molest his girlfriend without consent, prompting the mother to scream for help.
According to court records, when Lopez entered the room inquiring whether to call the police, Amandor-Martinez ordered him to leave. Following an attempt to vacate the premises, he grabbed a weapon and fired multiple shots through the door, killing Lopez and injuring his younger sister.
Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene, while his mother managed to escape with her three other children including a toddler. Authorities have charged Amandor-Martinez with murder, attempted rape, and other serious offenses, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a detainer request to prevent his release.
Concerns have arisen regarding the border policies allowing individuals like Amandor-Martinez to enter the U.S., highlighting the implications of lax immigration controls.
