On Wednesday, a devastating report confirmed that at least eleven Palestinians, who were in search of essential aid, were killed during Israeli military actions in Gaza, contributing to a total of 33 fatalities from gunfire and air strikes. Witnesses recounted that Israeli forces opened fire on crowds gathered along the Salah al-Din Road, where desperate individuals sought food supplies.
The Israeli military defended its actions, stating they fired warning shots when they perceived a threat but claimed to be unaware of any resulting injuries. Concurrently, air strikes across northern and southern Gaza resulted in additional casualties, with a home in Gaza City’s Zeitoun area directly hit, claiming eight lives.
Gaza’s health ministry reported a harrowing toll of at least 140 deaths over the past day. This includes a tragic incident in Khan Younis where 51 people lost their lives queuing for aid.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that as crowds formed near a charity center, Israeli tanks and drones began firing indiscriminately. A local physician reported that the injuries and fatalities stemmed primarily from air strikes and gunfire, with many families thrust into grief as loved ones sought basic provisions.
Since May 26, nearly 400 individuals have died while attempting to secure food aid from the recently established Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which aims to help the 2.1 million Palestinians affected, despite the UN’s refusal to collaborate with this initiative due to concerns over humanitarian principles and potential exploitation.
The situation remains dire as the UN and aid organizations reveal that the populations of Gaza face dire hunger, heightening the urgency surrounding humanitarian access.
