
A devastating crash occurred shortly after take-off of an Air India flight destined for London Gatwick, resulting in the loss of nearly all 242 passengers and crew aboard the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, with only one survivor reported. Among those who perished were 169 Indian citizens, alongside nationals from Britain, Portugal, and Canada.
The tragedy extended beyond the aircraft, claiming the lives of at least eight local residents in Ahmedabad, where the plane fell, including four medical students.
One notable victim, Ashok Patel, a financial adviser, and his wife Shobhana Patel, a retired microbiologist, had been en route to reunite with their children and grandchildren. Their son Miten expressed heartache over the loss, highlighting their vibrant personalities and commitment to family.
Another family devastated by the loss includes Akeel Nanabawa, his wife Hannaa Vorajee, and their young daughter Sara, who were remembered fondly by their community.
Other victims included Adam Taju, 72, and his wife Hasina, 70, along with their son-in-law. Fiongal and Jamie Greenlaw-Meek, a couple who shared joyful moments just before boarding, are also among the deceased.

Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also reported among those who did not survive, intensifying the tragedy’s impact.
