Over 27 businesses from Suriname, Trinidad, and Guyana are joining forces in a trilateral trade mission aimed at enhancing relations and creating new business opportunities. This initiative, organized by the Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce (SGCC) and the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association (TTMA), kicked off on Tuesday at the Pegasus Corporate Suite in Georgetown.
The TTMA-SGCC Trade Mission seeks to navigate and address operational challenges faced by companies. It represents the spirit of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME) trade agreement among CARICOM members. TTMA President Dale Parson emphasized the significant potential benefits for participating nations and urged meaningful dialogues during the mission.
With Guyana’s vibrant economic growth, Parson underscored the urgent need to address the gaps in demand, presenting a prime opportunity for manufacturers to capitalize. TTMA Director Navin Dookeran reiterated the emphasis on enhancing trade and creating beneficial ventures for all involved.
SGCC CEO Rahul Lildhar highlighted that the mission aims for unified economic growth, noting that trade within CARICOM accounts for only 13-15% of member states, a figure that both poses challenges and offers opportunities. Participating companies span various sectors, including manufacturing, logistics, energy, health, beauty, and consumer goods, and will engage in training and relationship-building to foster improved trading conditions.
Chair of the SGCC, Vishnu Doerga, introduced a proposed ferry service linking Guyana, Trinidad, and Barbados to enhance regional trade connectivity, while also encouraging investment in tourism to support Guyana’s growth.
