In a significant development, federal officials revealed that over 2,700 individuals linked to the notorious Tren de Aragua gang have been apprehended since President Donald Trump assumed office. During a White House press briefing, Attorney General Pam Bondi highlighted these arrests, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to cracking down on violent illegal immigration.
Bondi noted, “Today marked the 2,711th arrest of Tren de Aragua members in our nation,” underscoring the gang’s reputation as one of the most dangerous criminal organizations globally. She attributed the surge in criminal activities and the group’s expanding influence in the U.S. to the previous administration’s lenient border policies.
The Trump administration has officially classified the gang as a terrorist organization, enabling the swift deportation of its members under the Alien Enemies Act, a move that has faced legal challenges. Bondi asserted, “You should all feel safer now that President Trump can deport all of these gangs. No judge has the power to restrict his executive authority in this matter.”
Previously lesser-known in the United States, Tren de Aragua has increasingly garnered attention due to its involvement in high-profile crimes, notably targeting neighborhoods in Colorado.
