In a heartfelt letter, former President Donald Trump communicated his condolences to Tamara Jachym, the mother of Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, a congressional intern tragically killed in a shooting incident in Washington, D.C. Eric, a 21-year-old student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, was fatally shot on July 1 while interned for Rep. Ron Estes, R-Kan. The shooting occurred near the 1200 block of 7th Street, where Eric was not the intended target, as gunfire was exchanged among individuals exiting a vehicle.
In his letter, Trump expressed his devastation over the “senseless act of violence” that stole Eric from his family. “He will be remembered for his kindness and devotion to his family and friends,” Trump wrote, assuring that Eric would always be “held in my heart.” He acknowledged Eric’s contributions and the pride felt by Congressman Estes for having Eric represent his office and the community.
Tamara Jachym reflected on her son’s journey, noting his resilience in overcoming challenges like severe dyslexia and his ambition to excel in areas like mathematics and chess through self-learning. Describing Eric’s character, she mentioned how genuinely kind and articulate he was, feeling truly accepted in his D.C. surroundings.
As authorities continue their search for those responsible, the FBI and Metropolitan Police Department are offering a reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
