In response to escalating tensions in Los Angeles over federal immigration raids, President Donald Trump has deployed 2,000 National Guardsmen to the city. The unrest, which has drawn considerable attention, turned violent for a second consecutive day, as clashes erupted between protesters and federal agents, particularly in the predominantly Latino Paramount neighborhood.
Federal agents used tear gas to disperse crowds, with the situation leading to at least 118 arrests over the week, including 44 on a single day. As the first groups of National Guard troops arrived, law enforcement efforts continued to confront crowds that were reported to be using masks against authorities.
