The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is launching a revamped security process at select airports, starting Tuesday. This initiative includes the establishment of dedicated security lanes for active-duty military members and discounted TSA PreCheck fees for uniformed service personnel.
Certain airports near military bases, including locations in Texas, Alaska, Georgia, and California, will adopt this new lane to streamline the travel experience for service members.
According to a March report from the Department of Defense, there are approximately 1.13 million active-duty service members in the U.S. To show support for military families, the TSA is waiving the TSA PreCheck enrollment fee for Gold Star Families—those who’ve lost loved ones in service. Moreover, active-duty members will receive a $25 discount on the TSA PreCheck application fee.
Currently, both active-duty military personnel and civilian Department of Defense staff can enjoy complimentary TSA PreCheck benefits.
Ha Nguyen McNeill, TSA’s Acting Administrator, emphasized the agency’s dedication to easing travel pressures for the military community, stating this new program is a way to honor their service. The “Serve with Honor, Travel with Ease” initiative will be officially announced in San Antonio ahead of the Fourth of July weekend, anticipating an increase in travel.
The TSA, established by President George W. Bush post-9/11, operates under the Department of Homeland Security.
