A 20-year-old woman has come forward to police, claiming she was drugged and raped by three men during a distressing incident at Raghoo’s Sports Bar, as depicted in a recently circulated video. The victim, an Amerindian from the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, went to the Timehri Police Station on Friday evening with the help of Amerindian rights advocate Laura George.
In her report, the woman stated that she had no recollection of consenting to any actions captured in the video and suspects she was drugged prior to the assaults. The Guyana Police Force has confirmed the arrest of the bartender and several individuals of interest, with ongoing efforts to identify additional suspects and witnesses from the footage.
The situation has incited strong reactions, including from Minister of Human Services, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, who publicly condemned the attack on social media. She demanded full accountability for not only the alleged perpetrators but also the bar’s management, advocating for its permanent closure due to the alleged illegal activities occurring there.
The Minister emphasized the necessity of accountability in such establishments, insisting that owners bear responsibility for any unlawful practices. She also urged the public to assist law enforcement by providing any relevant information that could aid in bringing justice to the situation. Meanwhile, the victim is reportedly receiving crucial support, including legal assistance and counseling, facilitated by the Ministry.
The Guyana Police Force continues to request that individuals refrain from sharing the video and instead focus on aiding the investigation.
